CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – CSR

NSPSI’s Board of trustees, GNNSJ , has been actively involved in a number of Community development projects in Kericho, in Education, Health, Sports and Social Welfare. GNNSJ is also involved in doing work on number of fields worldwide, including charity and interfaith dialogue.

Some of the projects that GNNSJ has undertaken in Kericho,under the banner of Nishkam Project include:

  • Establishment of NSPSI – to cater for Technical and Business students who did not achieve the results to directly qualify for university education. New courses are constantly added to cater for different needs of the students.The Technical department at the College comprises nearly half of the student population.Those students now qualifying with a diploma in their respective fields are are able to join the university with some credit transfer .
  • School Fees Bursaries – About twenty bursaries for school fees are offered every semester to underprivileged members of the society which mainly include those orphaned and those with disabilities
  • Free Annual Medical Camp – Every year in August NSPSI hosts a free medical camp where those who are not able to afford the cost of visiting the hospitals are treated; on average, over 2,000 clients are treated over the two days’ camp for ailments ranging from dental, eye, diabetes, scabies, HIV screening, etc. Those with eye cases have been followed up and are further sponsored for cataract surgeries. During this camp free medicines are provided for all clients and dental health seminars are held for school children with assistance from Colgate. Free glasses are provided to needy cases.

  • Refurbishment at Highlands Primary School – In 2011-2012 GNNSJ refurbished administration block of Highlands Primary School in Kericho Township.This partnership will lead to further refurbishment in future
  • Support to Live With Hope Centre (LWHC) – In 2012 GNNSJ established a new income-generating tailoring production and training unit at Live With Hope Centre,Motobo.LWHC, under the trusteeship of St Franciscan Sisters, is home to children infected with HIV&AIDS and supports the local community in overcoming challenges in the HIVand AIDS pandemic
  • Sports, Vocational and ECD facility for the local community –  In august 2013 ground breaking ceremony for a three unit facility was performed in Matobo. Firstly is to develop indoor and outdoor sports facility and hence incorporate vocational training and production unit for the youth of the area and finally Early Child Development (ECD) unit for 120 children. This project is being done  in partnership with LWHC who own the land.
  • Support to Kids Home International – In year 2013, GNNSJ asssisted in furnishing, equipping and providing operational support to abandoned Children Home in Kerego area of Kericho. This was handed over to the Management of the Home on15th August 2013. The Home currently caters for over 32 children.
  • Day Care Centre at Kericho Women Prison – In year 2014 GNNSJ supported the establishment and construction of a Day Care Centre at Kericho Women Prison.The Centre will cater for those young and innocent children who are ‘imprisoned’ with their mothers who are already serving a jail term.The Centre has a room where some formal training in reading and writing skills will take place.
